According to rockstar mythology, this is supposed to be the last full year I have to dig my feet in the sand. Crazy how good the sunset looks.
When I was 8 years old, my mom and I moved to Inkster, MI. I was an only child, so it was just me and her and all my cousins that live out there. We used to ride our bikes with a pack of friends until my mom came and found us. Getting chased by dogs, hopping fences, just learning this game of life. We all know the best way to pick up a new game is experience. Tell us the rules and suggest what they would do, but there's nothing like getting out and playing the game
When I was 10, me and my mom moved back to Seattle and that's when my Uncle Lelen became a god to me. My mom and grandpa would be busy working, so I would be with him every single place he went. And I mean everywhere. If we weren't playing sports, we were just kicking it. If he had to go mess with a girl, I was with him. Playing her little brother's Sega Saturn in the other room. Late night walks with his red nose pitbull, I was with him. If he had to go pick up rocks, I would ride with him. My favorite part was stopping at McDonald's on the way home, we got the a #2, large size. That's the two cheeseburger meal they used to have haha. One time specifically I remember like it was yesterday, you were chopping up rocks in the your room and I was sitting there dribbling a ball and you looked me right in my eyes, shook your head and said, "That's crazy." I know the EXACT feeling you had when you said that. Life's a movie. Riding in old school whips, slapping
When I was 11, my mom got married and my step dad moved us out the Lake Stevens, WA. A completely different environment. In high school, me and Alex Z were those inseparable best friends. Going from one friend's house to another, in search of the uncatchable. We would go from bon fires to house parties to chillin in the Mcdonalds parking lot. Those summer days, working on Chaz's 240, then going drifting around the Lake, woke my soul. Lake gave me the free life.. dirt biking, skateboarding, cars and snowboarding.
When I was 15, Ms Wirth taught me music and showed me the lake life. She would take me jet skiing and we'd come home and watch Garden State. She made me listen to music, I never thought I would. After she played Album of the Year by The Good Life two times in a row, I gave in to the Indie life. For almost 10 years she's made me mix cds of new music to listen to. That changed my life more than you think.
When I was 16 I moved back to Seattle with my grandparents and played ball at Rainer Beach. Won a state champion and kicked it with the realest to walk this earth. Walking home from school with my OG DJones and Mike Keyed. Riding wit Drewpy in the cleanest Cutlass the Town has to offer. Watching movies play out with my nigga CWall. Cloverdale is LIFE. And real breeds were made at Rainer late night hoops.
When I was 17, I went to boarding school at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, NH. I was 1 of 3 kids from the west coast, I didn't talk to many people for the first couple months of school. My roommate, Bim, would talk to me all night. Just about life. Eventually, I let go and decided to live. There are no words for the life I learned at Brewster Academy. In all reality, that might be where Skyblue was birthed. Playing guitar with Paul, Josh and Max Brilliant. Experience life with JRoy, doing the things we'll never regret. Choppin shit win the Canadian lax players, listening to Dev from England talk about how much better the world could be. Cats from D.C., Chicago, NY, Jersey. Hockey players from Sweden. Asian kids with all the new technology. And New Hampshire's finest.
When I was 18, I went to Pullman, WA and played basketball for WSU. Nicky, Shiny, Marcus and the gang brought Skyblue to life, instead of it being stuck inside of me. That story could go on for daysssssss. Also going to Bellingham and Lake Chelan, losing my mind with Landon, Alex and David. Experiences that make you see the world in a whole different light. The finest women... Mary, Molly and Lucy.
When I was 20 I was arrested for possession of marijuana and a year and a half later kicked off the men's basketball team. I had no idea what was going on in my life. The most lost person you'd ever run into. I had no idea who or what I was and most importantly what I wanted to be. Didn't know if I still wanted to play ball. Didn't know anything. I was one decision away from working at your local grocery story for the rest of my life.
23, I moved to California to train to go pro in basketball with Charlie Torres. Met Stanley, Shea and my mothafuckin brotha California Dame. We hooped every single day, come home and played chess, chill with Dame and listen to Curren$y. I was working out for different teams... overseas and NBA. Me and Dame would go hoop in Laguna. Stan and I would hoop everywhere in LA and OC. One day coming back from Santa Barbara, Stan asked me, "Bro what is your dream?" And that's when Skyblue turned into its own life form. Stan made me want to reach for something. Stan not only sparked a dream in me, but sparked the idea that it was all possible.
So at 24 I started my own business and started to build an empire that will takeover forever. Spreading a lifestyle that no one can deny. When people ask what Skyblue is, it's hard to even form the words to describe it. It's a feeling, it's a life, it's that thing inside of you telling you to get the fuck up. It is, what it is. Thriving to leave a legacy behind. So when I die, the influence still carries on forever. From generation to generation. A story so overwhelming not only does it seem like imagination, but most importantly sparks imagination.
At 25, me and my brother Bob, signed a deal to partner Skyblue with Modern Portable, one of the biggest electronic companies in the world. Who knows where this is going to take us, but I know for a fact I'm just getting started. SKYBLUE FOREVER
Cheers to this next year... and in the words of
"I don't know where I'm going, but I promise it won't be boring"
